A Bad Online Dating Profile

A lot of clients ask us for really good online dating profile examples for men, but it’s often easier just to tell them what NOT to do on their online dating profiles. When most guys write an online dating profile they make a huge mistake: they list a load of really boring activities they like doing and then why they would be a good person to go on a date with. Here is an example of this typical rubbish online dating profile:

I really like the cinema and going to bars and clubs. I’m really into surfing and spend my summers in Newquay catching the waves. I’m easy-going, really fit and don’t like to take life too seriously.

Whilst this sort of online dating profile isn’t a disaster, it isn’t anywhere near optimal. It shows lack of originality and reeks of the guy trying to prove himself to the girl. Now I’ll give you a good example for something to try for your online dating profile:

A Good Online Dating Profile

“I’m looking for a certain type of girl. I don’t get on with everybody and if you tick most of these boxes we may well get on pretty well:

1. I don’t drink that often so I would need someone who is capable of having a good time without alcohol.
2. I spend a lot of time working on my business so someone who is similarly ambitious would be great.
3. I am really into keeping fit and eating healthily so being with someone who eats unhealthily isn’t going to work to well.
4. I love to dance – but very badly and embarrassingly. So if you take your dancing seriously then I’m probably not for you.
5. I like most normal blokey things: computers, football, golf… so bonus if you are into any of these things.
6. I like to have my own space so if you’re looking for a guy to be around all the time – I’m probably not him.

If you think that this is you it’d be great to meet x”

Why It Works

This message works well because it makes you look like a high value guy who is confident enough to impose a vetting procedure on any girls you meet. Even though you’re online dating, it makes you look like the chooser and the prize, not the applicant. Psychologically, as she is reading this profile, she will be considering whether she meets your criteria and will start to justify why she does or doesn’t match up. If you want to learn how to attract women, then you have to get them thinking this way about you.

Now this profile is actually a bit cleverer than it looks. It’s not just a list of demands. Although you’ve basically written a list of what you’re looking for, you have made sure to soften the message so it doesn’t seem to abrasive. So, even though the bulk of the profile is pretty cocky, you do say that you dance badly. By showing a little bit of vulnerability you make the rest of the profile easier to swallow and you invite the girl to have a bit of a laugh at your expense.

Using a profile like this will definitely polarise opinion. Some girls will think that you are great for them and others will be put off. This is ideal because you will attract the sort of girls that you are actually looking for. More importantly, the girls who like you will REALLY like you because they will feel like they have found a guy who is worth their time, rather than some loser who’s trying to please everyone.
