Clients often ask us how to talk to girls on dates. Well it’s not that complicated, but it does help to have a few strategies up your sleeve in case the conversation starts to dry up.
Use People Watching on a Date
A great tool to employ is “people watching”. This involves creating a narrative/story with your date for another person in the bar and is a brilliant strategy. It allows you to focus on something other than the two of you for a while; it’s a ready-made topic of conversation because it can create many conversational hooks; and people intrinsically like to do it
It’s really not that complicated to get a really good conversation going. Try something like this:
You: You see those two guys over there by the bar… what do you think they are talking about?
Girl: I’m not sure.
You: Let’s guess. I reckon I’m pretty good at working out what people are doing. These guys look like they are having a business meeting, but something doesn’t quite add up about the guy in the yellow tie. I reckon he could be pumping the other guy for information- it’s the way he occasionally plays with his napkin. It’s a nervous sign, but he doesn’t seem like a nervous guy so he’s out of his comfort zone. Who do you think is the dominant guy in the conversation?
Girl: I’d say Mr Red tie is the dominant one. He seems pretty confident.
You: Yeah, you see, I reckon that’s what Mr Yellow Tie wants him to think.
Girl: Really? What do you mean?
You: Well I think Mr Yellow Tie is in role as young Investment Banker giving Mr Red Tie information on an upcoming deal…
Girl: So who is Mr Red Tie?
You: Mr Red Tie is a hot shot hedge fund manager who makes all his money from inside information- but what he doesn’t know is that he’s on the end of a sting operation. The reason Mr Yellow Tie is nervous is because he’s an FSA agent who is trying to get an undercover taped confession from Mr Red Tie. As he’s been working on it for so long he’s nervous that he won’t get the right information and his chance could pass.
Girl: Hmm I think they are both recruitment consultants. It’s something in their eyes…
Hopefully at this stage the girl will feel compelled to add to the narrative or start a new one. Key to knowing how to talk to girls is the ability to actually create these narratives. Fortunately, it is something that can easily be practiced on your own on the tube- give it a go!
