Just Tell Her – Weekly Wrap 6-12 August

Just Tell Her

Welcome to the Just Tell Her project. Here you can follow our experiences and adventures as we approach 1000 women in London during 2012 and tell them – very simply – that we like them. No games, no tricks, no chat up lines. We see a girl we like and we Just Tell Her – and see what happens.

We run a coaching company which helps men to improve their confidence with women; over the past few years we have come to believe that being genuine, authentic and honest is the best way to meet women and have great relationships.

Instead of just telling people that this stuff works, we want to demonstrate what actually happens when you take our advice. So we’re going to take it ourselves. The road will not be smooth; there will be many highs and lows, but we hope that by seeing what happens on our journey you’ll be inspired to give this a go for yourself.

JTH – The Week That Was

The summer project is progressing nicely. I’ve never approached this many women in such a short space of time and the experience is surreal, to say the least.

It reminds me a bit of when I was eighteen and played thirty-six holes of golf every day for ten weeks. The most extraordinary things started to happen: I started sinking long raking putts, landing mid-irons on the green with a bit of check and hitting drives that just kept on climbing. The golf clubs began to feel like an extension of my body.

Anyway, something similar is happening this summer. Talking to women is becoming totally natural – like seeing an old friend and just chatting. As with my golf, some extraordinary things are starting to happen – the sort of things that only happen when you really throw yourself in at the deep end.

Here are some our best (and worst) moments over the last seven days.

Best Moment (Doug) – The Model

Yesterday on Broadwick Street I saw the most attractive girl of the past few days; she was in a pink dress with long tanned legs and waves of shiny brown hair. Every guy on the street was gawping at her as she walked by. My conversation with Alex went something like this:

Doug: She’s amazing.
Alex: Tell her.
Doug: She’s so hot.
Alex: Go and tell her Doug.
Doug: I can’t – I’m rooted to the spot.
Alex: Go!
Doug: S**t ok…

She was well up the street by this point. I jogged after her and told her how nice I thought she looked. She reacted with surprise and delight – God knows why as I’m sure she has guys complimenting her all the time.

She was a model from the Dominican Republic on her way to a photo shoot. It was fun to chat to the sort of girl I would never normally meet in my social circle and we’re going for a walk in Regents Park next week.

Best Moment (Alex) – Action Time

My best moment from Alex in the last week isn’t what you’d expect. It wasn’t an amazing approach or getting a girl’s number. It was when I arrived at his house one morning and he told me: “I’m actually looking forward to this today!”

There have been times over the summer when approaching women has seemed like a chore, especially when we’ve needed to go out a lot. It can be mentally draining and you need to absorb a lot of awkwardness and rejection.

So that morning when I saw Alex relishing the prospect (not just pretending to relish it) I knew he was going to have a great day.

Worst Moment (Doug) – Heartbreak outside Umai Sushi

I was having a sushi break with Alex at Umai on the corner of Brewer and Air (very nice sushi takeaway btw). A tall blonde girl walked past, looked in the window and smiled right at me.

I put my chopsticks down and went out to speak to her without hesitation. The conversation went brilliantly; I told her I thought she had a great smile and it was an ego boost to see her blush. I knew that we’d get on really well, but when I asked for her number she was “very sorry” but she had a boyfriend.

I know I know: pretty girls have boyfriends. It’s going to happen. But I really liked this one and it played on my mind for the rest of the day.

Worst Moment (Alex) – Alex Gets Owned

I don’t mind putting this story here because Alex didn’t take it too badly when it happened. Also it was definitely a runner for funniest moment of the week. The dialogue went like this:

Alex: You look really nice.
Girl: Thank you, but I need to get back to work.
Alex: No worries. Have a nice day.
Girl: You know what, you have really nice eyes.
Alex: Wait hang on a minute. I think you’re lovely and you like my eyes. It sounds like we should have a drink when you finish work.
Girl: {after a long pause} No I think we’ll just leave it there for today.

Alex got a lot of good-natured ribbing from me for the rest of the day.
